As prohibition is slowly eroded, and the myths are dispelled around Marijuana use, we often get lost in rhetoric of the legalization debate.
There is one thing maybe missing out. Namely that legalization may directly decrease the number of drunk drivers on the road.
Imagine yourself on a Saturday night, out at a bar, young, drinking with friends, looking out for that cool somebody.
Now think forward; 3:00am, in a squad car for being over 0.08 Blood Alcohol, enough to loose your licence. At the time, and all drinkers can contest to this, you feel you are in complete control.
How does this relate to pot, Marijuana, the wacky tobacky?
Well, this is the interesting thing, recent psychological studies have shown that the introduction of marijuana to an already intoxicated person makes them aware of the state of their intoxication.
In other words, getting high after getting drunk allows one to accurately understand the real level of the intoxication, and as such they make better judgement calls, and not get behind the wheel of a car.
This is HUGE plus for the argument of legalization of Marijuana. Because, if this study is repeatable, by using a bit of pot people can accurately assess they are too drunk to drive. Therefor they opt for another method home. By extension this means drunk driving will go down.
This is interesting after the CHP study that showed a bit of Marijuana (not in excess) actually causes a driver to become better drivers, as they became a more cautious driver.
